Japanese Garden

Japanese Garden Japanese Garden
Entrance
  • Double cherry blossoms, a typical kind of Japanese cherry tree, are arranged in containers to create a springtime effect.
  • Cherry blossom containers are showcased at the Garden Necklace Yokohama event every year. After the cherry blossom finishes flowering, the containers are sent to different parts of the city, where they are transplanted and grow to become new beautiful flower spots for the people to enjoy.
Hospitality Garden
  • The garden is designed based on the image of a bamboo grove adjacent to a farmhouse, with various bamboo fences, such as the Garyugaki fence, natural stones, Japanese plants, and lily beds.
  • Lilies were brought back to the Netherlands by Siebold, a doctor stationed at the Dutch trading post in the Edo period and this opened up an awareness in Europe of the blooming Japanese flora.
After the Meiji period, a large number of lilies were exported from the port of Yokohama, contributing to the horticultural development in Japan and Europe.
Tsukiyama artificial hill (Satoyama)
  • The space is designed to look like a wooded area in a Satoyama next to a farmhouse, with an artificial hill surrounded by Konara oak and Kunugi trees.
Together with the flowering Satoyama trees of Murasakishikibu, Rhododendron japonicum, and the Core hydrangea, container cherry trees will be arranged along the main pathway to create a space where visitors can sense the four seasons of Japan.

Homecoming flower bed
  • At the National Urban Greening Yokohama Fair (Garden Necklace Yokohama 2017), a new garden design was developed together with the Dutch horticulturists.
  • The tulip Baramaki (random variety mixture) flower beds that were created there have taken root in Yokohama and have spread to Yokohama Yamashita Park, Yokohama Park and other parks around the city with the participation of the Yokohama citizens. The design has led to the creation of the "Homecoming Flowerbeds" at the Horticultural Expo in the Netherlands and will be carried forward to the Yokohama International Horticultural Exposition in 2027.
Event Square
  • A venue for events, receptions and PR events will be decorated with a traditional carp streamer that celebrates a calendrical event (Children's day) symbolizing energy and power.
Withered Garden
  • A dry Landscape garden called Karesansui using natural stones and gravel, is created as a representation of how the Japanese view nature. The design blends in with various shrubs and ground covers that Kawaguchi City and the Kawaguchi Agricultural Junior Chamber of Commerce are currently working with.
